This one changed everything.
I used to check Instagram, emails, and Slack messages before I even got out of bed. I was consuming everyone else’s energy, priorities, and problems before I’d even connected with myself.
Now, my phone stays in another room until at least 9 AM. That first hour (or more) is mine.
During this time, I:
- Stretch in bed and set an intention for the day
- Make my tea or coffee slowly, mindfully
- Journal or meditate
- Move my body gently
The soft life principle: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Protect your morning energy like it’s gold—because it is.
How to start: Start with just 30 minutes phone-free. Use an actual alarm clock (or your backup alarm) and leave your phone charging in the bathroom or kitchen. Work your way up to an hour, then longer.
