Journaling: My Non-Negotiable Morning Practice

I’ve been journaling for years, but I used to treat it like a task. Now, it’s a conversation with myself, with God, with the Universe—however you want to frame it.

Every morning, I open my journal (currently working through my own Better Than I IMAGINED gratitude journal) and I write:

  • 3 things I’m grateful for – and I get specific. Not just “my family” but “the way Uche made me laugh yesterday when he tried to explain Kenyan slang”
  • My intention for the day – how do I want to feel today?
  • One thing I’m releasing – a worry, a limiting belief, a need to control something

This practice keeps me grounded, grateful, and aligned with what actually matters.

The soft life principle: Gratitude shifts your frequency. When you start your day acknowledging abundance, you attract more of it.How to start: Keep it simple. Just three gratitudes to start. Use your phone notes if you don’t have a journal yet. The consistency matters more than the tool.
